I wanted to do something different for today’s post. I don’t often get to share about my life when I talk about design and write Illustrator posts aside from the little I write about on my Instagram page so I thought I would share with you 5 facts about me. I would love to get to know my readers better too so leave a comment on this post with a story or fact about you.
My favorite food is pizza and pasta/noodles. My first year of college I ate pizza and salad every day at school where I discovered how delicious pizza tasted with caesar salad dressing. In my senior year of college, I moved away from home for an internship where I ate noodles every day because it was cheap and easy to make. Fortunately for my health, my eating habit has changed drastically since then and I sometimes even eat vegetables now!
My sister and I used to have pet fish that we would keep in this small fish tank in our room. We also had birds, turtles/tortoises, and a dog growing up. The last time we had pet fish my brother gave me a fish for Christmas which I got to open the day before Christmas so I could put it in my tank with the other fish. The next day, all my other fish had died and the only fish remaining was the fish that my brother had given me. This was a really good reminder of why you should research how to take care of certain types of fish before you get them.
I got my first iPod in middle school and starting around late middle school early high school I became unhealthily obsessed with listening to music. Every hour I wasn’t in school I was listening to music even when I was reading a book, doing my homework, or playing a board game. In fact, every decade from middle school to high school I had a different obsession first music, then watching YouTube videos/Tutorials, and now Surface Pattern Design. I still listen to music a lot mainly classic rock and alternative, but luckily not as much.
Christmas is my favorite holiday. Some may say I like it too much as I listen to Christmas music year round, but who says Christmas music can only be enjoyed in December? Not me! I also sing Christmas music year round which really annoys most of my family members. The only thing that rivals my love for December and Christmas is my love for Disney and Disneyland!
I wanted to end with a little note on how I got into Surface Pattern Design. I plan to dedicate a whole post on this topic later, but I actually got into Surface Pattern Design because of Skillshare. About 2 1/2 years ago I was heavily trying to learn hand lettering and I stumbled across a hand lettering tutorial on this website called Skillshare which I had never heard of before. I started searching the website for more tutorials and discovered a tutorial by Elizabeth Olwen on how to make patterns and the rest is history!
